CARDIOLOGY

Dr. Upendra Kaul
Dr. Kaul is Director-Cardiology at Fortis Flt. Lt. Rajan Dhall Hospital. He is an MD Medicine (1975) and a DM Cardiology (1978) from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. His Post Graduation training in Interventional Cardiology was obtained in Australia under the aegis of the Australian Post Graduate Federation of Medicine in 1983-84. During his long and distinguished career as a Clinician, Researcher and Teacher, Dr. Kaul has held several coveted responsibilities. He has been on the faculty of G.B Pant Hospital, New Delhi, PGIMER, Chandigarh and was Professor of Cardiology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. He joins Fortis after a very successful innings at Batra Hospital, New Delhi where he held the post of Director, Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology.

Amongst the earliest pioneers in coronary interventions in India, Dr. Kaul introduced several new techniques in this discipline. He is an active member of several professional bodies, has participated in and conducted numerous live interventional cardiology demonstrations at National and International meets. He is on the faculty of several prestigious universities in the USA, Europe, Far East, China and Australia. Dr. Kaul ia a past President of the Cardiological Society of India and is currently the Vice President of the SAARC Cardiac Society. He is the recipient of the Dr. BC Roy Award for 'Developing Specialities' for the year 1999 and has more than 450 publications to his credit.

Dr. Mohan Nair
Dr. Nair, formerly a Professor of Cardiology at GB Pant Hospital, is internationally recognized and known for his contribution to cardiac Electro physiology and the management of abnormalities of the cardiac rhythm. He has vast experience in performing as well as imparting training on a variety of cardiac interventional procedures.

Dr. Rakesh Rai Sapra
Senior Consultant in Interventional Cardiology & Electro-physiology at FORTIS Hospital. He did his training in Electro-physiology and Radio-frequency ablation Mt Sinai School of Medicine New York, USA in the year 2001and Brigham and Women's Hosp Boston, USA. He completed his DM Cardiology course from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 1996. He has trained in cardiac catheterization and independently performed over 5000 vascular interventions including coronary angioplasties, balloon valvotomies, peripheral angioplasties including renal and carotid angioplasties and congenital interventions including PDA and ASD closures. He has keen interest in the field of electro-physiology and have performed numerous radio-frequency ablations including complex ablations using electromagnetic CARTO mapping. He also has extensive experience in implanting various pacing devices including implantable defibrillators and bi-ventricular pacemakers (cardiac resynchronization devices ). He has special interest in electro-physiology study, radio-frequency ablation, permanent pacemaker (including dual chamber pacemaker) implantation and follow up, AICD implantation and follow up and holter analysis.

Dr. Tapan Ghose
Dr. Tapan Ghose, MD (Med), DNB (Med), DNB (Cardiology), FNB (Interventional Cardiology), MNAMS, FIAMS is a Consultant in Cardiology. He graduated (MBBS) from Silchar Medical College and was awarded gold medal in medicine. He did his post graduation MD (Internal Medicine) from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh. Subsequently he passed the DNB (Internal Medicine) examination from National Board of Examination, New Delhi. He has worked in the Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi and subsequently in Batra Hospital & Medical Research Centre, New Delhi. He passed DNB (Cardiology) examination from there and joined the faculty as a Consultant in Interventional Cardiology in 2001. He was awarded the Fellowship of National Board (Interventional Cardiology) in 2002.

Dr. Ghose has been associated with several pioneering works in Cardiology in India like primary angioplasty (PTCA), use of Abciximab and Atorvastatin . He has more than 75 publications in several national & international journals. He has contributed to 5 chapters in text books.

Dr. Ghose is well versed in coronary interventional procedures & cardiac electrophysiology. His areas of interest include coronary artery disease in the young, hyperlipidaemia, hypertension and rhythm disturbances. He is a member of National Academy of Medical Sciences India and a Fellow of International Academy of Medical Sciences.

Dr. Manoj Kumar
Dr. Manoj Kumar, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist in Fortis Group of Hospitals is DM (Cardiology) from G.B. Pant Hospital in year 2000. He received the D.P. Basu-young investigator award in 1999 for his work in electrophysiology in CSI 1999 Annual Conference. He is trained in 3D arrhythmia mapping from University of Alabama, USA. He has number of publication in national & international journals. His area of interest is coronary intervention & electrophysiology.

Dr. Ripen Kumar Gupta
Dr. Ripen Kumar Gupta, MD (Medicine), DM (Cardiology), FNB (Interventional Cardiology), is Consultant Cardiology in Fortis Group of Hospitals. He completed his DM Cardiology course from King George's Medical College, Lucknow in 1998. He worked as faculty in Escorts Heart Institute & Research Centre, New Delhi and Christian Medical College, Ludhiana. In 2001, he joined the faculty of Batra Hospital & Medical Research Centre, New Delhi as Consultant Cardiology. He was the first cardiologist to be awarded the Postdoctoral Fellowship of National Board in Interventional Cardiology instituted by National Board of Examinations. He has independently performed various vascular interventions including coronary angioplasties, balloon valvotomies, peripheral angioplasties including renal and carotid angioplasties and congenital interventions including PDA and ASD closures. CARDIO THORACIC VASCULAR SURGERY

Dr. T.S. Mahant
Dr. Mahant, Director Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgery has more then 15,000 surgeries to his credit. He has trained at the most prestigious centers in New Zealand, Australia and USA. His expertise involves coronary artery bypass surgery, valve replacement surgeries for infants and children with complex heart disease.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta
Dr. Sanjay Gupta is currently a Senior Consultant, Cardiothoracic and vascular surgery at Fortis Flt Lt Rajan Dhall Hospital, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. He passed his MBBS (1998) and MS General Surgery (1991) from MLN Medical College, Allahabad, UP. Subsequently he did his M.Ch. (Cardiovascular and thoracic surgery) from K.G's Medical College, Lucknow UP in 1994.

He worked at Batra Hospital and Medical Research Centre, New Delhi for eight years in the capacity of consultant cardiac surgeon under the great leadership of Dr. T.S. Mahant and played an important role in spearheading the programme of Cardiac Surgery to great height.

In 2003, he joined Narinder Mohan Hospital & Heart Centre, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad (UP) as H.O.D. and Chief Cardio-vascular and thoracic surgeon. He performed more than 500 surgeries over there, pertaining to all subspecialities of branch (viz coronary, congenital heart surgery, valvular heart surgery, all vascular and thoracic surgery). Subsequently he associated with Fortis Hospital, Noida, UP in later half of 2005, when hospital started its cardiac surgery programme. During his present appointment he was instrumental in the designing and commissioning of cardiac surgery department.

Dr. Alok Suryavanshi
Dr. Alok Suryavanshi is currently a consultant, Cardiac surgery. He passed his MBBS & MS (General Surgery) from M.G.M. Medical College, Indore. Subsequently, he did his M.Ch. (Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery) from L.P.S. Institute of Cardiology, Kanpur .

He worked at Batra Hospital & Medical Research Centre, New Delhi as a Consultant, Cardiac Surgery associated with Dr. T.S. Mahant since 1999 till 2005. Before joining Fortis Flt. Lt. Rajan Dhall Hospital , New Delhi , he also worked at Fortis Hospital , Mohali as a Consultant, Cardiac Surgery since January 2005.

He is a dynamic and hard worker cardiac surgeon having special interest in all types of simple & complex paediatric cardiac surgery. He is also involved in various research work and also attended various national & international conferences.

DIABETES & METABOLISM

Dr. (Prof) Anoop Misra
Dr. Misra is the Director, Diabetes and Metabolism at Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj. He is a specialist in Diabetes, Obesity, Lipid Disorders and Metabolic Syndrome. He was professor at the prestigious AIIMS, New Delhi, a faculty at Dept. of Endocrinology at South Western Medical Center at Dallas, USA, and World Health Organization (WHO) fellow at Royal Free Hospital, UK. Dr. R. K. Mani
Dr. R. K. Mani is the Director, Dept. of Pulmonology, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine at Fortis Flt. Lt. Rajan Dhall Hospital. He is widely recognized as one of the pioneers in the field of Pulmonary and Critical Care medicine in India. He was one of the first physicians to introduce the concept of Non-invasive ventilation for both acute and long-term home care. He was also one of the pioneers in the field of sleep medicine especially sleep related breathing disorders. He has treated hundreds of patients of sleep apnoea, obesity-hypoventilation syndrome and neuromuscular respiratory disorders using non-invasive mask ventilator devices.

Since the early 90's he has been widely acknowledged nationally for his expertise in Respiratory support and general care of the critically ill. He has been elected the next President of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. S Bal
The Thoracic Surgery Division is led by Dr S Bal, he was till recently, Additional Professor of Surgery and Consultant Thoracic Surgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He is a former fellow of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre, New York and a Senior Registrar at the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital, London.
